WHAT IS B CORP?
Becoming a B Corp is about more than adding a logo to your website or packaging.
It’s a rigorous process and a long-term commitment to understanding how your business impacts your team, customers, community, environment and wider stakeholders — and then taking meaningful action to drive ongoing improvement across those areas. Ultimately, it’s about aligning your actions with the belief that business should be a force for good.
For purpose-led businesses, B Corp certification is a powerful way to bring greater structure, accountability and recognition to the amazing work you’re already doing. It can help you identify and strengthen weaker areas, track progress over the long term, and build greater trust with your stakeholders.
But certification doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, expertise and patience to embed the right strategies and practices. It requires data, evidence, policies, leadership engagement and, ultimately, the ability to turn good intentions into consistent, measurable and demonstrable business practices.
DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START?That's where we come in.
Ardent is a broader impact consultancy with B Corp expertise and hands-on implementation experience. We work with purpose-led businesses across professional services, creative agencies, hospitality, sustainable design and architecture, and consumer goods to help them become B Corps — and build stronger businesses in the process.
We don’t take ownership of the process away from you. We work alongside your founders and teams to ensure they’re deeply engaged in the work, while providing the expertise, structure and strategic guidance to make it manageable and meaningful.
Every business is different, so we tailor our approach to your size, stage, resources and priorities, helping you understand what’s required, identify where to focus, and implement the right strategies with clarity and confidence.
Our goal isn’t simply to help you achieve certification. It’s to help you embed meaningful, measurable practices that create lasting impact for your business and its stakeholders.

WORK
B Corp Certification & Operations Project
YEAR
2025
We began with a full review of the B Corp application — identifying missing evidence, scoring opportunities, and the key areas needing attention ahead of analyst review.
From there, we provided strategic guidance on improving impact performance and aligning operations with B Corp requirements, increasing scoring potential without losing sight of what the certification actually means.
We developed tailored policies and operational frameworks to strengthen compliance, improve accountability, and support long-term impact. We built these around how the organisation actually works, not a generic template.
Finally, we delivered a structured handover with practical implementation guidance, so the team could embed changes confidently and maintain momentum long after certification.
WHY IT MATTERS-
The certification process forces you to look closely at how your business actually works — not just what your values say on your website.
That means getting clear on policies, responsibilities, data, targets and processes that can otherwise be overlooked as a business grows.
You may find yourself improving everything from onboarding and employee feedback to supplier screening, carbon measurement, governance and impact reporting.
-
Your people are one of your biggest assets — and one of the clearest indicators of whether your values are genuinely embedded in the business.
B Corp work can help you understand how your team experiences the organisation, where there are gaps in wellbeing and engagement, and what needs to change to create a stronger employee experience.
The result is not just better documentation. Done properly, this work can lead to better feedback systems, clearer expectations, stronger onboarding and a more consistent company culture.
-
Customers, clients and procurement teams increasingly want to understand how businesses operate.
They may ask about your carbon emissions, modern slavery risks, supply chain, employee policies, diversity and inclusion or environmental commitments.
B Corp Certification does not replace the need to answer those questions properly. It gives you a robust framework for doing so.
For consumer-facing businesses, particularly in sectors such as food, beauty and fashion, B Corp status can also be a meaningful signal to customers who want to understand whether a company's commitments are backed by action.
-
You cannot improve what you do not measure.
The B Corp process helps businesses build the systems needed to understand their impact, identify gaps and track progress over time.
That might include carbon measurement, climate action planning, employee data, supplier screening, community impact or more robust governance and reporting.
You leave with a clearer picture of where you are now — and a more credible plan for where you need to go next.
-
B Corp Certification connects your business to a global community of companies working towards a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.
The movement now includes more than 11,000 companies across more than 100 countries and 160 industries, employing more than one million people.
The community can provide opportunities to learn from other businesses, share knowledge, build relationships and find new ways to improve your impact.
For many businesses, the value of certification extends beyond the certificate itself.
THE ARDENT METHODCOMMON QUESTIONS-
There is no single timeline.
For an established small or medium-sized business, the process can take several months to over a year depending on the complexity of your organisation, the gaps identified, the availability of internal teams and the pace of the certification and assurance process.
Our Illuminate assessment typically takes four to six weeks. After that, we provide a much more specific timeline based on your organisation's actual readiness.
B Lab's review and assurance timelines can also vary, and Ardent cannot control the time taken by B Lab or an independent assurance provider.
-
There are two separate costs to consider.
First, there is the cost of working with a consultancy such as Ardent to prepare your organisation.
Second, there are B Lab certification fees and the costs associated with third-party assurance.
B Lab's fees vary according to the size and complexity of the company. Additional costs may apply in certain circumstances, including where further assurance work is required.
We will provide a clear proposal for our work after the Illuminate phase.
-
Potentially, yes.
B Lab states that companies typically need to be for-profit, legally incorporated, operating for at least 12 months, based in a country or territory served by B Lab and not significantly involved in an ineligible industry. They must also be willing to measure and improve their social and environmental impact.
If your business is not yet eligible, there may still be valuable work you can do now to prepare for certification in the future.
-
Possibly, depending on the nature and scale of your work.
The new standards include eligibility requirements and due diligence around certain industries and activities. Some companies may be able to continue operating while undertaking additional due diligence to identify, prevent and mitigate potential negative impacts.
We can help you assess your client and supplier relationships, develop appropriate screening processes and create clear internal guidance around the organisations your business is willing to work with.
-
No.
B Corp is a global certification, and eligibility depends on the country or territory where your company is incorporated and whether B Lab currently serves that location.
The B Corp movement spans more than 100 countries and more than 160 industries.
We can support businesses based outside the UK, subject to the relevant B Lab eligibility requirements.
-
B Corp is not the only way to demonstrate your commitment to better business.
During Illuminate and Align, we can help you understand which certifications, accreditations or frameworks are most relevant to your organisation, industry and goals.
Depending on your needs, we can advise on and support work towards options such as:
Race to Zero
People & Planet First
Science Based Targets initiative
Living Wage accreditation
The Clean Creatives pledge
Carbon accounting and climate action frameworks
Relevant ISO standards and assurance processes
We can help you understand which options are most appropriate, develop the policies and evidence required, and guide you through the process.
